Chapter 5
From the Faron Province to the Kakariko Village
Heroic Link. The Spirit of the Faron Province said as Link reappeared in the spring. Do not think that Hyrule is now saved from the spread of twilight
Leave these woods and go to the land in the east, where you will find the land protected by the spirit Eldin. There you will find the ones you seek
But know that those lands now lie in twilight
They are now a dark realm covered by the clouds of dusk.
If my friends are there I will go! Link cried to the disembodied voice.
If you set foot beyond the curtain of twilight you will revert back to your beast form, so be prepared. Faron added.
So be it! Link yelled back.
Hero chosen by the gods leave these woods and go to the east, to the land of Eldin.
Farons voice fades off into the distance and Midna rises from Links shadow.
Thats better. She said.
What? Link asked.
Searching should be much easier now. She giggled.
Wait, were still traveling together?! I thought youd leave after you got what you wanted.
I didnt say that this is ALL I wanted. She added.
Shouldve figured. Link sighed.
But
Of course, you feel the need to go help the other light spirits dont you? She teased.
I have to!
Well dont worry when you turn into a beast again Ill take good care of you.
Great.
The first thing you need to do is find the land covered in twilight. Once you do Ill help you out.
Thanks. He sighed.
Hey sound more enthusiastic! Im going out of my way to help you!
Then why am I doing all the work?
She floated away and put her hand to her chin in thought then floated back to him.
She giggled see you later.
She slipped back into his shadow. Link sighed again.
EPONA! Link called. Here girl!
She was nowhere to be found. He picked up the whistle grass and blew in it but still she did not come.
Better start walking.
He turned to his right and into the large pathway covered by a large hollowed out tree. A few deku babas stood in his path but were quickly disposed of. He passed by Cooros hut and bought some more oil for his lantern and left the Faron Woods. Link entered the large Hyrule Field; in the distance the evil glow of the twilight pervaded the land. A few roaming bokoblins stood in his path; Link quickly sliced them with his sword and continued on. Heading west like Faron said Link crossed the rolling plain. Noticing a ridge in the eastern rock wall he headed for that spot when he heard a voice.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!
Link turned to see a short man running towards him. He wore a red hat, tight white shirt and shorts and had a giant red flag strapped to his back. He approached covered in sweat.
Go no further! He panted in a strange foreign accent. There is a black wall ahead that blocks the way! I thought I would deliver a few letters, but it seems impossible.
Thats what Im looking for. Link replied.
Why? The postman asked.
Hmm what should I tell him? Link thought to himself.
Well your business is your own. He said.
Oh thanks.
Anyway I am the honorable and dependable letter carrier know as a postman.
Nice to meet you, Im Link. Link greeted extending out his hand.
The postman shook his hand and hurried on with what he was saying.
Now that I have introduced myself, please! He said reaching into his backpack. Take this letter and read it at your leisure.
Link accepted the letter and looked over it curiously.
Well my business it concluded! Onward to mail!
With that he ran off.
What a strange man. Link mumbled to himself.
He opened the letter and read it. It basically introduced himself and told him not to flee if he saw him running at top speed. Link made a face and stowed it in his pack. Running more east he killed more bokoblins and some kargaroks and saw a strange new creature. A bomskit, a strange little thing, it had two long, skinny legs was bug-eyed and popped out small bombs from its rear. It ran near Link and he just stared at it, it popped out a bomb and still Link stared at it. The bomskit stood still and the bomb it dropped was a fluke. It then ran away.
That was weird. Link said to himself.
He kept going until he reached the black wall with an orange glow, as he approached it the world seemed to go dark.
Hey, it was much closer then I thought. Midna bragged. You remember right? You know what this is?
How could I forget? He replied.
If you set foot in there you might become a wolf for quite some time. She teased.
Im ready.
So shall we try to see the light spirit of Eldin? She giggled.
Link nodded and Midna strolled into the curtain and her arm came through pulling Link in. He landed face down in the dirt, he stood up only to fall back down and return to his wolf form. Midna lands on his back in her normal form.
Thats a good boy! She says patting his back. Now, you need to listen to what I say from now on!
Hey! Link growled.
No lip mister! Ahh, look! How lovely! The black clouds of twilight are so fetching today
If thats what you like.
I feel so much more at ease here. And you look so much better like this then in those dusty old clothes.
HEY!
Anyway
So lets get going!
Link sprints off, heading down the path in front of them and then notices a broken stick in the path. Somethings wafting off it. It has a strange but familiar odor. Link sniffs it closer and smells the children from Ordon! He can smell Talo, Malo, Beth and Colin on it.
See isnt being a wolf more convenient? Midna giggled.
Link didnt replied but went on to sniff the ground and follow the trail left by the kids. The trail led to the edge of a cliff.
Huh the scent goes over. Link huffed.
The bridge is gone. Midna said
Suddenly a red barrier appeared around then and three twilit messengers dropped down from a hole in the sky. Surrounded Midna creates her area-of-effect and Link finishes them off in one fell swoop. The glowing red hole in the sky fades to a light bluish color.
I wonder if this is the work of those shadow creatures
Ugh! She exclaimed to the gorge. What a pain. Ah well lets look for it.
Huh?!
You, get your map out.
Link lays his map on the ground and Midna points out an area in the Kakariko Gorge.
This is where we are but you already knew that right? She raises her eyebrows.
Of course.
Whenever you destroy those creatures from the darkness a portal opens that looks like this. She indicated to a small blue circle over their location. And theres some in the woods we came from, Ill use my powers to take you there.
You can do that?
Of course. Pick where you want to go.
How about North Faron Woods.
Alright.
Link and Midna split into pieces of twilight and flew through the portal reassembling in the North Faron Woods.
See! I told you. Were here! She gloated coming from Links shadow.
Whoa.
Ya know most people cant leave the twilight that easy so be grateful.
Fine. He sighed.
Now find that bridge.
She disappeared and Link set off. Finding a large wooden structure leaning against the cliff wall. Midna reappeared, approved and warped it, Link and herself back to the gorge. The bridge floated across the open ridge and fit perfectly into place. After more bragging that Link paid no attention too they bounded forward. The gates to the village beyond the field was locked but relentless Link dug under it and entered the Kakariko village. Right after entering the village they had to fight more twilit messengers, after rounding them up and defeating them with a single attack.
This way. A voice called. To the hero
Who was transformed into the blue-eyed beast
In the realm of shadows
In twilight. This way.
Link entered the waters of a spring near the entrance. A glowing mist floated above the water.
I am
A spirit
Of light. It said weakly. Hero
Chosen by the Gods
look for my
Light! Gather the light
Stolen by the shadows in this
The Vessel of Light floated from the mist into Midnas outstretched hands.
The insects of darkness
They are the form taken
By the evil that attached itself to
My scattered light. In this shadowy twilight the insects are invisible same as the people of this world. With the last of my
Power I shall make their locations on your map.
Thank you spirit. Link said.
But be careful
The darkness now hunts you.
With that the spirit marked the twilit parasites locations on Links map and faded to silence.
